I finished Uncharted 2 months ago and have been aching ever since to continue treasure hunting ever since I finally found out the source of the Cintamani stone. What's not to love about the hero, Nathan Drake, in these treasure hunting adventures. Well, hold your hat because details of the next installment in the series have slowly started to come out to the public. Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception should be released some time during the fall of 2011. Most likely right before the holiday season.




Uncharted 3 will be a completely new storyline from the first two games. It will incorporate the character information of course. Nathan Drake, a descendant of the great explorer Sir Francis Drake, will in this third game in the series be sent to the Arabian Peninsula and the Rub'al Khali Desert to search for the lost city of legend called Iram of the Pillars. Most of the settings of this game will be bleak without lots of buildings, so it is anticipated that this installment will be more character driven than the past games. The story in Uncharted 2 was fantastic, and if they are bringing back the same writers then I am definitely going to be first in line to get my hands on this new game.
The game will be in the same format which Naughty Dog is calling, "interactive cinematic experience". What I can tell you is that even my wife likes to sit and watch me play because she says that it is like watching a movie on DVD. Since there are women involved and a little bit of drama between them, it was enough to keep her interested. The games are a little bit more for adults, but I had no problem with my teenager either.
According to Sony Pictures, work is scheduled to begin next year on the Uncharted movie which will be an adaptation of the video game for the big screen. There are rumors that the selected director might be off the project and Sony is looking for a new director. Also it is rumored that Mark Wahlberg is the front runner to play Drake's character in the movie. Even if the filming is delayed, it sounds like the movie will get made at some point. I think the Drake character could be an Indiana Jones type for the younger generations who might not be able to relate to the classic movies.
The premier of the trailer for Uncharted 3 is scheduled to air during the Spike Video Game Awards which is on December 11th. I will be glued to the television.
